The novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused the world to shut down. Schools, universities, offices, malls, countries, states or businesses. Everything has been put on hold by the governments around the world. Currently, India has reported 83 positive cases of the novel coronavirus with only 2 deaths, a 63 year old lady from New Delhi being the most recent one.
On the 14th of March, the Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, announced that all schools, colleges, casinos, disco clubs etc. have been shut down till 31st March, as reported by the Asian News International (ANI).
Casinos are a place where a large number of people gather almost every day and under the given circumstances, it is the right decision of the Goa government to close all public establishments. The state government, like that of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh has decided to shut down all educational institutions. However, the dates for the Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examinations remain unchanged.
The Deltin Poker Tournament Xpress March Edition which was supposed to run from 26th-29th March has also been cancelled given the strenuous circumstances around the world. The tournament organisers released a statement to announce the cancellation of the DPT Xpress March Edition:
The DPT Xpress March 26-29 has been postponed due to the rapid spread of the Covid -19 virus. All satellites on Adda52 will also be cancelled with immediate effect. The new dates will be announced shortly.
The February Edition of the DPT Xpress was a highly successful event aimed at attracting low to mid stakes players. Manish Adnani, the Business Head of Poker at Deltin Royale, had this to say, “Unfortunate that the world is facing a crisis currently with the COVID-19 virus. We were optimistic to roll out the second edition of the DPT X, which has a fantastic start to the series. It’s important to stay safe at these times, and postponing the event is in line with ‘Social Distancing,’ which has been prescribed as our first line of defense. I hope the situation improves, and the world comes back to normalcy sooner than later.”
With the live felts being cancelled or postponed, it should be a great opportunity for the online poker community to really take over and reap the benefits from the closing of the casinos.
