In the world of poker, we’ve all heard and seen our fellow professionals and newbies taking over the live and virtual felts of the game. And in recent times, the buzz has been increasing more and more around the excitingly wild strategies and nuances of poker, especially in the Hollywood space. Ever since movies like ‘Rounders’ and ‘Molly’s Game’ took flight, there have been talks of a few upcoming movies on the game in Hollywood, which means a great deal to all the poker fans and players in the world.

Now we bring to you the news of yet another poker movie, and this one would be specifically made on the biggest annual poker event on the planet, the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Yes! You heard that right. We’re talking about director and writer Paul Schrader’s upcoming movie called ‘The Card Counter’ which has just announced a star-studded cast!

Schrader talked about his upcoming film in a recent interview, “In my films, I’ll sort of combine two worlds that seem to have nothing to do with each other. In the new one, it’s the world series of poker and Abu Ghraib.” Actor Oscar Isaac will be playing the main role of an ex-serviceman and gambler, while Actress/Comedian Tiffany Haddish has been signed on with Tye Sheridan and Willem Dafoe, all three very established and experienced actors in the industry.

Further adding on to the movie’s star-studded cast, Schrader mentions that he loves Tiffany. He’s personally never met her but did speak to her on the phone for almost an hour and appears to be a firecracker! He mentions its like talking to a live-wire connection. She’s very funny and she makes others funny as well. And when someone’s sharp, that makes you get sharp because you tend to keep up with that.

The movie is financed by HanWay Films. The plot revolves around Isaac trying to reform a man who is looking for revenge against a mutual enemy. One of Schrader’s creation, the 2017 dramatic thriller ‘First Reformed’ was nominated for an Academy Award so we’re sure to expect something good coming out of Schrader with this movie, which will soon begin production.
